Who We Are
Mastercard Casino List Canada (“we”, “us”, “our”) runs www.thevil.ca, a Canadian resource that compares online casinos accepting Mastercard: card deposits, payouts back to the card, bank rules, licences and welcome offers. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect when you use the site, why we collect it, who we share it with and how you can control it.
We are responsible for the personal information we hold. Our Privacy Officer oversees compliance with this policy and with Canadian privacy law, including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and, for residents of Québec, the Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector as amended by Law 25. You can reach the Privacy Officer at [email protected].
Scope
This policy covers www.thevil.ca, its subpages, our newsletter and any email exchange with our team. It does not cover the websites of casinos, banks or payment providers that we review or link to. When you leave our site to open an account or make a deposit with an operator, that operator’s own privacy policy applies to the information you give it.
Personal Information We Collect
We keep collection to what we need to run the site and answer you. We never ask for card numbers, banking passwords, identity documents or casino login details, and we ask you not to send them to us.
Information you give us:
- Your name and email address when you write to us or use a contact form;
- Your email address and topic preferences when you subscribe to our newsletter;
- The content of your messages, including feedback on a casino or a payment method;
- Your responses if you take part in a survey or reader poll.
Information collected automatically:
- Technical data: IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, language settings and approximate location at city or province level;
- Usage data: pages viewed, time on page, the page that referred you and the links you click;
- Referral data: when you follow a link to an operator, we record the click (operator, page and time) and attach a referral identifier that does not contain your name or email address;
- Cookie and consent data, as described in our Cookie Policy.
How We Use Your Information
| Purpose | Information used | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Answering your questions and complaints | Name, email, message content | Your request and our reasonable interest in replying |
| Sending the newsletter | Email address, preferences | Your express consent under Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) |
| Running, securing and improving the site | Technical and usage data | Necessary to provide the service |
| Measuring which pages and comparisons readers use | Analytics data | Your consent through the cookie banner |
| Attributing visits to operators | Referral data | Necessary to provide the service and to fund it |
| Meeting legal obligations | Any relevant record | Legal requirement |
We do not use your information to make decisions about you based solely on automated processing, and we do not build gambling profiles of individual readers.
Newsletter and Marketing Emails
We send the newsletter only to people who have asked for it. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and we process unsubscribe requests within 10 business days, as CASL requires. You can also unsubscribe by writing to [email protected]. If you tell us you want a break from gambling content, we remove your address from every mailing list we run.
Sharing Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with:
- Service providers that host the site, send emails, provide analytics and protect against fraud and spam, under contracts that limit their use of the information to the services they provide to us;
- Casino operators and affiliate networks, which receive the referral identifier and click data needed to attribute a visit, but not your name or email address;
- Professional advisers, such as lawyers and accountants, when needed;
- Authorities, courts or law enforcement, when the law requires it or to protect the rights and safety of our readers and our team.
Storage Outside Canada
Some of our service providers store or process information outside Canada, for example in the United States or the European Union. Information held abroad is subject to the laws of that country and may be accessed by its authorities. Before any transfer, we check that the provider protects the information to a standard comparable to Canadian law, and for Québec residents we carry out the assessment required by Law 25.
How Long We Keep Information
| Information | Retention period |
|---|---|
| Messages and support emails | 24 months after the last exchange |
| Newsletter subscription | Until you unsubscribe, then a suppression record so you are not emailed again |
| Analytics data | Up to 14 months |
| Server logs | 90 days, unless needed to investigate a security incident |
| Referral click records | 24 months, for accounting with operators |
When the retention period ends, we delete or anonymise the information.
Your Privacy Rights
You can ask us at any time to:
- Tell you what personal information we hold about you and how we use it;
- Correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete;
- Withdraw your consent to the newsletter or to non-essential cookies;
- Delete information we no longer need;
- Provide your information in a structured, commonly used technological format (Québec residents);
- Stop disseminating your information or de-index a link containing it where the law allows (Québec residents).
Send your request to [email protected]. We may ask for information to confirm your identity, and we reply within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or, in Québec, the Commission d’accès à l’information du Québec.
Cookies
We use strictly necessary cookies to run the site and, only with your consent, analytics and referral cookies. Our Cookie Policy lists each category, its purpose and its duration, and explains how to change your choices.
Security
We protect personal information with measures that match its sensitivity: encrypted connections (HTTPS) across the whole site, restricted staff access on a need-to-know basis, multi-factor authentication on our admin systems and regular software updates. If a breach creates a real risk of significant harm, we notify you and the regulator as Canadian law requires.
Age Restriction
Mastercard Casino List Canada is intended for adults of legal gambling age: 19+ in most provinces and 18+ in Alberta, Manitoba and Québec. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone below that age. If you believe a minor has sent us personal information, write to [email protected] and we will delete it.
Responsible Gambling
Gambling should stay entertainment, never a way to make money or pay debts. Our Responsible Gambling page explains limits, self-exclusion programs such as BetGuard in Ontario and free provincial helplines, including ConnexOntario at 1-866-531-2600.
Changes to This Policy
We review this policy at least once a year and whenever our practices change. The date at the top shows the latest version. If a change affects how we use information you have already given us, we tell newsletter subscribers by email before it takes effect.
