Responsible Gambling

Our Commitment

Mastercard Casino List Canada exists to help Canadians pay and get paid safely at online casinos, and safe play starts before the first deposit. A Mastercard payment takes seconds, so the card makes it easy to spend more than planned. We treat gambling as paid entertainment, never as a way to earn money, cover bills or win back losses, and every casino we rank offers tools to keep play under control.

Online gambling is for adults only: 19+ in most provinces and 18+ in Alberta, Manitoba and Québec.

Know the Warning Signs

Gambling problems often build slowly. Ask yourself honestly whether any of these apply to you:

  • You spend more money or time on gambling than you planned;
  • You chase losses with bigger or more frequent deposits;
  • You borrow money, use a credit card cash advance or skip bills to keep playing;
  • You hide your gambling from family, friends or your partner;
  • You feel restless, anxious or irritable when you try to cut back;
  • Gambling affects your work, studies, sleep or relationships;
  • You gamble to escape stress, loneliness or low mood.

If one or more of these sound familiar, it is a good moment to pause and use the tools and support below. Help is free and confidential.

Keep Card Spending Under Control

Card payments feel less real than cash, and a few habits keep them in check:

  • Use a debit Mastercard or Interac rather than a credit card. Many Canadian banks bill gambling payments on credit cards as cash advances, with a fee and interest from day one;
  • Ask your bank about the daily spending limit on your debit card and lower it if you need to;
  • Avoid saving your card in the casino cashier if one-click deposits make it too easy to top up;
  • Never deposit money set aside for rent, bills or debt repayments;
  • Keep track of every deposit and withdrawal, so the real balance is always visible.

Tools Available at the Casinos We List

Every casino on our list gives players tools to manage their play. You will usually find them in the account settings or the “Responsible Gaming” section, and live chat can activate them for you:

ToolWhat it does
Deposit limitCaps how much you can deposit per day, week or month. Lower limits apply at once; higher limits apply after a waiting period
Loss limitStops play once your net losses reach the amount you set
Wager limitCaps the total amount you can bet in a period
Session time limitEnds your session or warns you after a set time
Reality checkShows regular reminders of how long you have played and how much you have spent
Time-outBlocks your account for a short break, from 24 hours to several weeks
Self-exclusionCloses your account for a longer period, usually six months to five years or permanently

Set your limits when you open an account, while your judgment is clear, not in the middle of a session.

Self-Exclusion in Canada

Self-exclusion is a binding decision: during the chosen period, you cannot open or use accounts at the sites it covers, and the decision cannot be reversed early. Each province runs its own program:

  • Ontario: BetGuard, run by iGaming Ontario, excludes you from every regulated online gambling site in the province, including OLG, with a single enrolment. Terms run from six months to five years;
  • Alberta: the AGLC runs self-exclusion for the province’s regulated online market and Play Alberta;
  • British Columbia: BCLC’s Game Break program covers casinos, community gaming centres and PlayNow;
  • Québec: Loto-Québec offers voluntary self-exclusion for its online and land-based games;
  • Other provinces: the Responsible Gambling Council publishes a province-by-province list of self-exclusion programs at responsiblegambling.org.

If you play at a casino outside your provincial program, contact its support team to self-exclude there as well.

Protecting Minors

No one under the legal gambling age may gamble online. All the casinos we rank verify age and identity before paying out winnings. If children use your devices:

  • Keep casino logins and saved cards away from shared devices;
  • Never leave an account logged in on a family computer or tablet;
  • Use parental-control or gambling-blocking software such as Gamban, GamBlock or Net Nanny.

How We Can Help

If you want to stop receiving our newsletter or any gambling-related email from us, write to [email protected] with the subject “Take a break”. We remove your address from all mailing lists within 10 business days and do not contact you again unless you ask.

If you are worried about a friend or family member, the provincial helplines above also advise the people around a player. Reaching out is a strong step, not a weak one.
